18 Life Lessons for Creatives
It’s been a long year – 2018 gave us twelve months of lower lows and higher highs, and along with it came a set of new lessons learned. In honour of this year, which brought us another royal wedding, an entirely new album of Ariana Grande bops, and the rebranding of Glo Media, here are 18 quick lessons we learned to enter the new year stronger and wiser.
Keep it 100. Your best chance of getting noticed is playing to the beat of your own drum.
If you have an idea that you want to work with, then run with it ASAP. A common regret we heard this year was people saying they wished they started sooner.
Networking in person > internet friends.
Let go of anything that doesn’t work.
You are the average of the 5 people you spend time with most, so surround yourself with people you want to be.
Think like a designer and find inspiration everywhere, even outside of social media.
Word of Mouth is the best kind of marketing out there. Influencing and Ambassadorships might just be the next best thing.
Unless they pay your bills, stop giving a fuck about what strangers think.
Rejection isn’t a personal thing. It’s just another experience.
Travel as much as you can, from the neighbouring city 2 hours away to the other side of the world. New perspectives will only strengthen your craft.
Stay informed with the news and keep evolving with your craft.
Don’t be afraid to ask for advice – just make sure you can apply it to your own life.
Focus on what gives you the most energy and delegate the rest.
Build your brand from your customer’s perspective.
Deliver solutions, not options.
Say thanks where it’s due. Gratitude is the new cool!
Get comfortable with not knowing what the future holds and let it be the fuel to your fire.
Don’t take any shortcuts and don’t settle for anything less than your goal.
Which lessons will you be carrying into the new year?
