Social Media Trends in 2023

If there is one thing that is always changing, its definitely social media and all the trends that come and go with it. In 2022, we saw a huge shift in the type of content produced. The first being more short form videos and the second, true authenticity. The newest and hottest app at the moment, BeReal is sweeping the internet and Gen Z’s and Millennials are living for it. This relatable app has made social media fun again without all the filters, hashtags, and the constant battle for likes and follows.

In 2023, the growth of community lead content and originality is only going to get bigger. Keep reading so you know what social media strategies you can implement in the new year.

The Rise of Nano and Micro Influencers

It’s not a secret that content creators are now making $$$ whether it be a side gig or their full time job. The trend of brands working with influencers has continued as more companies are now hungry for content and realize the significance and impact these creators have on their audience. The budget for influencer marketing has grown so much to where some companies solely rely on this alone to market their brand or service. Because of this, we are now seeing creators with relatively a smaller follower/subscriber base doing very well in this industry.

User Generated Content

Going hand in hand with influencer marketing, brands leveraging user generated content will still continue to go strong. Some brands such as House of Lashes, Starbucks, and Away heavily rely on their customers to tag the brand to get featured on their next post. Whether you are paying influencers for UGC or simply looking for posts through your tagged pictures/videos, this tactic can make the brand more authentic and trustworthy compared to branded content. Also, if your content get’s reposted on the brand’s page that is more exposure for you and a win win as a influencer!

Less Cookie Cutter Content

In 2021 and 2022, hopping on trends was what made you popular on TikTok and Instagram. Meaning, if you used a popular audio to create a similar video as the person you first saw it from then chances are you will do just as well. However in 2023, we are going to be seeing less of the cookie cutter type of content where everyone is doing the exact same thing and transitioning to more original content that shows personality through storytelling and a more casual approach.

Embracing the Smaller Platforms

While we have been putting our main focus on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube for content, social networks such as Linkedin and Pinterest are making a comeback. Pinterest saw a huge growth in users during COVID, in fact adding over 26 million users. They have made it a mission to reward cretors differently, with a focus on building a community around shared passions and ideas. Creators on Linkedin on the other hand are taking to the platform to infuse their personality in their posts and standing out as experts in their respective fields.
