How the Metaverse Will Change Social Connection
The Metaverse, you have probably heard your friends and family talk about this but first off what exactly is it? And how will it change the way we have a social connection between everyone in the next couple of years? If you are a frequent user of all social media platforms then you have probably seen the term metaverse floating around.
To put it into simpler terms, The Metaverse is a new way of socializing through a new fictional world with the use of virtual and augmented reality. This became popularized when CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg changed its name to Meta. Zuckerberg’s vision of the metaverse is to allow users to enter into a virtual world to create a life of their own, connect with people worldwide, and have experiences you may not be able to do elsewhere.
How do I enter into The Metaverse?
To be exact, there is no way to access the Metaverse just yet because it does not fully exist. There is no universal world that is connected like how the Internet is currently and there is not app named the Metaverse that can be opened and opened amongst users. However, there are pieces of it that exist through multiple platforms such as games and various apps. To see the Metaverse it goes without saying that you need a VR headset just like the Oculus Quest to experience this virtual world at its fullest potential.
How will it change our lives?
One big aspect that could change with the help of Metaverse will be the increase of experiences. Though this concept is years away, the technology and increase in AR and VR availability will become more and more apparent and other companies will be hopping onto this new reality.
An example will be working from home experiences. Imagine putting on a virtual headset in the morning and walking into your own office in Tokyo, London, or Dubai while located in the comfort of your own bed. You can re-create your office virtually anywhere in the world and take meetings with your colleagues with a push of a button.
How can brands be incorporated?
The Metaverse will allow brands or even artists to tell a story like they have never seen before. Artists like Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, and Lil Nas X have partnered with popular gaming companies like Roblox and Fortnite to perform an exclusive concert for users. Travis Scott’s live performance garnered 12 million live views and received an additional 173 million views on his YouTube channel. This new world won’t have any geographical limitations which means you can market to any audience no matter where you are located. It will ultimately be about the brand and the story they want to share.
Brands can prepare themselves by jumping into the VR world early. This will allow for full advantage of the Metaverse’s capabilities and once it becomes more accessible to the world, you will be a veteran and can easily maneuver around. You can see brands such as Gucci, Chipotle, Shopify, etc. in the virtual world today.
The possibilities of the Metaverse are endless and this is only just the beginning. Business leaders can start to imagine and create their own workplaces of the future.
